NCAA Softball Austin Regional postgame quotes: Auburn vs. Houston

May 18, 2012

HOUSTON

Head Coach Kyla Holas
Opening Statement: I thought that was a really tough game but at this point in the season that is what you are to expect in post season, it is going to be close and any one thing can be the difference. I was really proud of our team, they kept fighting and fighting. They come together to find a way to win.

On the team's ability to continue in the last few innings:That is something that has been a key for us. We have asked our team to win with offense and defense; today I thought they did a great job with that. I did a great job behind the pitcher, not allowing anything abstract.

On facing left-handed pitchers:That is something we have practices all week. We are fortunate that we have two lefties on our staff, we were able to use them as much as possible. We had not prepared for three pitchers in one game; we were just trying to prepare for the one that we thought they would go to but the offense was able to put some pressure on their pitchers to have to make some changes. I thought overall as an offense we did really good.

On Houston's seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament: Those are some of the behind the scenes things that I do not know about, but I think that is big for a school like Houston. I don't think a lot of people expect that from a mid-major. I thought we did a great job representing. We came and said it doesn't matter at this point anyone can win.

Sophomore pitcher Bailey Watts
On bouncing back after giving up game-tying home run:It is hard whenever you give up a homerun in that situation but to come back and have my team behind me, especially putting runs in like that helps. It was a good game for us. We tried to use every pitch that I had. We changed up speed a lot. I tried to stay focus on one pitch at a time and not be worried about the what ifs; it worked.

AUBURN
Head Coach Tina Deese
Opening Statement:We played hard. I thought we were back in it with a hit, but we turned around and gave it right back. It was one of those hard fought ball games. Any ball game this time of the year, you are going to have to play hard. We had a letdown in the fourth inning, but the only thing that we can do is fight back.

Freshman outfielder Branndi Melero
On her homerun:I was going out there trying to make sure that I was going to get on base, trying to do whatever I can for the team, sure enough she threw it right there and it took off.

On the loss: It is disappointing but I know that our team can come back in the two games that we have tomorrow. We are going to come out, kick butt, and keep winning.
