Longhorns Host Final Home Tournament Of 2013 ...
Texas ends its home tournament schedule this weekend and looks to continue its season-opening winning streak after a 5-0 victory over Houston Baptist on Wednesday afternoon made it a 12-game run to start 2013.
In the last seven wins, the Longhorns have outscored their opposition 63-2. The pitching staff has thrown three-straight shutouts and six in the last seven games.
Texas And Lamar ...
The Longhorns and Lady Cardinals will face each other for the first time in program history this weekend. Entering Friday's game, Texas is 52-7 against all current members of the Southland Conference.
The Longhorns and Golden Hurricane ...
Friday's meeting will be the third in program history with Texas claiming the first two, both in Austin. The Longhorns downed Tulsa 6-1 Feb. 11, 2011, and 9-1 March 31, 2012.
In the most recent game, Taylor Hoagland, Torie Schmidt and Courtney Craig each drove in two runs while four players tallied two hits and Kim Bruins scored a pair of runs. In the circle, Blaire Luna went all six innings and allowed three hits and a walk while striking out nine.
Texas Versus Ranked Opponents ...
The Longhorns face their first ranked foe of the season Friday at against No. 24/24 Tulsa. Since the beginning of UT's varsity program, in 1997, Texas has played 328 games against teams ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll. In those contests, UT is 160-167-1, including a 35-25 mark since the current seniors arrived on campus for the 2010 season.
A year ago, the Longhorns posted a 14-10 record versus ranked foes, good for the program's most wins versus top-25 opponents since claiming 19 in 2006.
A Good Place To Start ...
The Longhorns have posted a 12-0 record to begin 2013. The run is the second-longest to open a season in program history: 16 (2003), 12 (2013), 11 (2010) and 10 (2011 and 2012). The 2003 team made a trip to the Women's College World Series.
Thom Named Big 12 Conference Player Of The Week ...
During six games last week, junior shortstop Taylor Thom hit .556, drove in 14 runs, scored eight, tallied 21 total bases, stole five bases and slugged 1.389. Tuesday, she was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Thom Is Grand, Twice ...
Thom joined an elite group last Saturday evening at Houston when she hit two grand slams against the Cougars. She went deep in the first and third as Texas won 15-0 in five innings. Thom became the fourth player in NCAA history to hit two grand slams in a game.

UT continues action at the Texas Invitational presented by Time Warner Cable with two more games Saturday. The Longhorns face Utah State at 10:30 a.m. before playing in the event semifinals at 4:30 p.m.
