Behind the mask with Megan Willis: Jan. 30
Hey y'all, Finally, a solid week of practice without any major weather problems! We did have to practice in The Bubble last Wednesday due to rain, but other than one day indoors we had a good week of practice outdoors. Instead of having a full weekend off from practice, we had Tuesday off because of a chance of rain and added a Saturday morning workout. It has been so much better practicing outside and being able to hit live pitching and field grounders off of the dirt. We just finished our first full week back to school, and I think it is going to be a busy semester for everyone. All of our classes are scheduled before 1 p.m. every day and we start practice with position players at 1:45 p.m., and on Tuesday/Thursday, pitchers and catchers start at 1 p.m. On Monday/Wednesday/Friday we have weights from 4:30-6 p.m., so we are very busy throughout the week, plus all of the newcomers have to attend study hall from 7-9 p.m. This may sound like a lot of time that we put in, and it is, but we do it to get better. Our coaches give us the responsibility of handling busy schedules to help us manage our time better. On Saturday, we had morning practice from 9 a.m.-noon, which was a nice change especially since the weather was so nice. We even had a few visitors come out to our morning practice: our athletic trainers from the past two seasons, DeeAnn Koehler and Donald Nguyen. Fair weather fans, literally! Afterward, I hurried home to get ready to go to the baseball alumni game that started at 1 p.m. My poor boyfriend (former Longhorns pitcher Sam LeCure) had to wait for me to get home to leave for the game, and by the time we got to the stadium it was 12:45 p.m. He had to hurry inside the stadium and get dressed pretty quickly. I must say the fans we have here at UT are absolutely amazing, considering the enormous amount of people that turned out for the game, even though it was at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Watching the game really got me excited for the softball team to start playing. I can't wait to play at home in front of our fans! See you soon, P.S. I forgot to send a birthday shout-out to Brittany Chalk last week!! Happy Birthday, Britt!!!
