Softball tabbed second in Big 12 Preseason Poll
Jan. 17, 2013
IRVING, Texas - The University of Texas Softball program was picked to finish second behind Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Oklahoma took the top spot in the poll for the fourth time in five years by receiving all six first-place votes for 36 points. The Longhorns were second with 29 points. Baylor was a close third, receiving 28 points, while Texas Tech landed in fourth with 20. Oklahoma State (16), Kansas (12) and Iowa State (six) rounded out this year's preseason poll. UT has been picked to finish in the league's top three for three-straight years, but this poll marks the highest Big 12 preseason ranking for the program since placing second in 2006. The Longhorns open the season hosting the Texas Classic Feb. 7-10. All five of UT's games during the event will be televised live by Longhorn Network. Texas starts the tournament with a 7 p.m. contest versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, Feb. 7.
