Louisiana-Lafayette postgame quotes

Co-Head Coach Stefini Lotief
Opening statement: It's definitely not the way we wanted the season to end, but I think the girls came out here and fought hard. We didn't have the outcome that we would have liked, but I think that if you look back at the whole body of work throughout the season, it was a pretty good season. We came up a little bit short of our ultimate goal, but I'm proud of the way they fought and overcame adversity.

On UH's Haley Outon's two homeruns: We had played them the day before, and we handled her then. It's exactly as Ashley said, Outon hit two different pitches. She just had a good day.

On UH's Amanda Crabtree's pitching: She's a good pitcher. I think that she did a good job in the circle. We saw her twice and she just kept pounding it in there. We have a very good hitting team, and I'm proud of the way they hit throughout the whole year. Crabtree just did a good job today.

On the team's performance: We have had girls who have been injured and come back from those injuries. We've had torn ACL's, broken legs, broken wrists and much more. This team has had to overcome a lot. I couldn't be more proud of their effort.

Junior P Ashley Brignac
On Haley Outon's two homeruns: The coaches come up with the game plan, and we all follow it. She hit two different pitches.

Senior 1B Gabriele Bridges
On her last at bat: Reality didn't set in until after it happened. I wasn't up there thinking this was going to be my last at bat. I was going up there with the same mentality of any at bat, and things just didn't happen for us.

On UH's Amanda Crabtree's pitching: She threw a lot of balls at the beginning, so we tried to lay off of those. It was working towards the end of the game. We made our adjustments late, but we should have made those sooner. If we had made adjustments earlier on maybe something different would have happened.

On her emotions as a senior: There's no way to express the way I feel right now. It's like a hole in your stomach. But I've fought for four years and put in my time, and I couldn't ask for anything else from this team. I appreciate everything that my coaches have done for me. I would've liked to have gone to the (College) World Series my senior year, but everything happens for a reason. I know these girls are going to come back so much stronger from it next year.

Houston postgame quotes

Head Coach Kyla Holas
Opening statement: For the past two days I have said we still had a lot of work left to do, but now that work is finally over. We're really excited, and we look forward to a good week of practice.

On Amanda Crabtree's pitching: I think she did a really good job. We had to work through some hard innings, and I think she did a great job of that today. I told her that I wanted her to finish this for her as a senior. I was glad that she was able to want that as much as I did for her and take control and finish the game.

Senior P Amanda Crabtree
On teammate Haley Outon's performance: She really has progressed throughout the season. In the beginning she was making common freshman mistakes, which is expected. She hadn't faced the caliber of pitching game in and game out. I think she has done a great job of putting in the extra work and learning more of the mental side of the game. You really can tell that in the last half of our season that she has slowly improved. It's awesome to see her have this success and see her hard work pay off.

On pitching against Louisiana-Lafayette: They are an offensive team and made me work hard. I have to give them credit. They did a great job of battling, but I think that I did a better job this game of making the adjustments early, which is something I did not to the first time we played.

Freshman C Haley Outon
On her performance: It was exciting just having all of my hometown friends and family here. Today I just came out and tried to step up, and it worked.

On her two homeruns: Well, Friday they pitched me inside, and that's what I was expecting. After my second at bat I struck out on a high pitch, so I was expecting inside again and that's what I got.

On her emotions: It was nerve-racking just because I'm home and starting as a freshman. Amanda asked me before the game if I was nervous, and at first I told her no. Then she asked me again and I admitted I was a little nervous. I got the jitters out in the first game of the tournament and kept improving from there.

Junior LF Melissa Gregson
On teammate Haley Outon's performance: She has become very coachable, and her swing has gotten stronger throughout the season. Overall I think she's really stepped up, and we are all very proud of her.

On winning the Regional: This is something we talked about at the beginning of the season. We've had our problems in the beginning, but towards the end of the season we've really come together as a team. We're all ecstatic right now to be going to the super regional, and I couldn't be more proud of our team.
