Texas postgame quotes
Head Coach Connie Clark On Houston's performance: Again, you've got to credit Houston. When they needed to get the bunt down they did. We just have to get in there and make those plays. I don't think we converged on a couple of those opportunities as quickly as we needed to. I thought we were more assertive after the first inning, but you can't start the game in the second inning. On Texas' hitting: I think we were aggressive. We chased some stuff out of the zone. Obviously we had to look at two different pitchers today, but we've worked on that. We've faced really good pitching throughout the year with our schedule. Typically, we have a backup plan that we go to where we try and shorten up and put it in play. But we didn't make that happen as well as we are capable of doing today. On breaking out of a slump: We talked about that just now. We're doing everything we can to make adjustments from last year. That includes staying together in a hotel and dictating some things where I think we can be better. We obviously hoped that we wouldn't be playing tonight, but we prepared for this possibility. We're going to go eat and get right back.
Houston postgame quotes
Head Coach Kyla Holas
On changing pitchers: The weather is a big factor for everyone. It's hot and humid, and it's a long three-day tournament. It's one of those things that you can't be afraid of going to your bench. We talked with all of them, and they knew what was happening. They were all warmed up and ready to go. Tomorrow we're going to have the same plan.
Senior OF Katy Beth Sherman On scoring the only run: It was exciting. I knew I was going. Coach was yelling at me the whole time. My job was just to get to the plate and get around the tag somehow.
Senior P Donna Bourgeois On facing the Texas hitters: Texas has a very good team. Every single one of those girls has the potential to hit it over the fence. The only thing you can do is focus on one pitch at a time. On having a deep bullpen: I've been a part of teams that have great pitching staffs. I enjoy every bit of it, especially with the girls on this team. It's fun to be able to pitch three or four innings and know you're going to win.
Senior P Amanda Crabtree On facing Texas a second time: I knew that they were aggressive hitters. They swing big and want to hit big. You just have to use that to your advantage by putting a lot of movement on the ball. I think that really helped me.
