Texas postgame quotes

Head Coach Connie Clark
Opening statement: It's nice to start with a win. I thought it was a good battle tonight. I loved our body language and our mentality. We've certainly been talking and working on that all week. Even after the rain delay when Texas State threatened I thought we were very focused, and I thought that was the difference.

On P Blaire Luna's performance: We've got a lot of confidence in Blaire. I was very calm in the dugout and actually enjoyed charting the pitches and watching her work. You could just see that she was absolutely in the moment.

Senior C Amy Hooks
On the strikeout in the fifth inning: It was a huge at bat for them. They had runners in scoring position. We just had to stay calm, stick to our game plan, and believe in our team. I think that strikeout was huge in terms of momentum. It got us really pumped up going into the next inning.

On her homerun: This week I've been working really hard on inside pitches. The scouting report says that she likes to pitch inside, so I was anticipating it somewhat. She's a great pitcher. I just saw it really well.

Sophomore P Blaire Luna
On her pitching performance: Throughout the entire game Amy and I had a game plan. I just tried to get ahead on every hitter and eliminate the walks. I think it definitely worked out. It was a good thing that Amy and I were on the same page throughout the game.

On staying focused during the rain delay: We went in the locker room and talked about what we were going to do when the game resumed. It's kind of tough being in the middle of an at bat. We just talked about what pitch we were going to throw and where to place it.

Texas State postgame quotes

Head Coach Ricci Woodard
Opening statement: When you only get one hit in a ball game it's going to be hard to win. Blaire Luna did a great job on the mound and kept us off balance. We just couldn't produce when we needed to.

On facing Texas P Blaire Luna: We talked early on about making her throw strikes. I thought we did a good job of that early on. For the most part we didn't chase too many bad pitches, but we didn't hit the ball hard either.

On the rain delay: The rain is just something you have to deal with. We dealt with it last weekend at Sam Houston State. It's just one of those things that when you come back out, you just have to go play. I thought we did a good job of that.

Sophomore 2B Anna Hernandez
On staying focused after the rain: We love the rain. We're a kind of team that feeds off adversity. It didn't really affect us. If anything it pumped us up more.

On facing Blaire Luna: Blaire pitched a great game. We need to focus more on having a plan when you go up to the plate and sticking to it. We've faced Texas twice this year already, and we need to use that to our advantage if we end up playing them again.

Sophomore P Anne Marie Taylor
On the rain delay: I felt like it helped us settle in and focus on what we needed to do. I felt like after the rain delay we played a better game than before.

On facing Louisiana-Lafayette tomorrow: We just need to prepare to play our game, take it one pitch at a time, and play the way we know how to play.
