Turner helps Softball celebrate Senior Day victory
AUSTIN, Texas -- Wynter Turner (San Pedro, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the third-ranked Texas softball team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-0 victory over Iowa State at McCombs Field on Saturday afternoon in front of 1,010 fans. Texas (34-8, 8-3 Big 12) honored its seven seniors before the game, before moving to 20-0 all-time against the Cyclones (15-27, 1-11). Cat Osterman (Houston, Texas) threw her Big 12-leading 14th shutout of the season, a four-hitter, in the circle. Osterman (20-4) threw the shutout on four hits while striking out 12 and walking two. ISU's Katie Reichling (6-10) took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out five and walking three. The Longhorns honored their seven seniors and their families in a pregame ceremony on the field. Askew, Amy Bradford, Alexis Garcia, Melanie Jarrett, Lacy Robinson, Lizi Sowers, Turner and their families were all brought onto the field and celebrated by the coaching staff in what was one of their final regular-season games at McCombs Field. The two teams will complete the weekend series on Sunday with a 3 p.m. game at McCombs Field that will be aired live on ESPN2. There will be a free pregame kids carnival prior to the game - beginning at 1 p.m. - in the Disch-Falk Field parking lot across Comal Street from McCombs.
