NEW YORK -- Five Longhorns were named to the 2006 Soccer Buzz magazine All-Central Region teams. Junior forward Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas), and sophomore defenders Stephanie Logterman (Austin, Texas) and Kasey Moore (Mission Viejo, Calif.) were named to the 14-member first team. Senior captain Carrie Schmit (La Mesa, Calif.) was a second-team honoree and the third-team featured sophomore goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger. Texas, led by All-Americans Carpenter and Moore, finished the season ranked an all-time best eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 poll. UT had one of the best soccer seasons to date as the team finished the year with an 18-4-3 record, setting school records in overall (18), regular season (15) and road (7) wins. Eighth-year head coach Chris Petrucelli won his 100th game and led the Longhorns to their first Big 12 Soccer Postseason Championship. Entering the 2006 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships, Texas earned its first number one national seed and tied its furthest advancement into the tourney, playing in the third round for the just the second time ever. The top regional performers for 2006 women's college soccer were announced by Soccer Buzz earlier this week, as the online magazine presented annual postseason honors for the eleventh time. Sixty-eight schools comprising the Northeast Region were eligible. Buzz awards were based on a nomination process open to all Division 1 coaches and balloting results of a voting panel of selected D1 head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff.
