IRVING, Texas -- Texas junior defender Kasey Moore garnered the Big 12 Conference spotlight as the top Defensive Player of the Year, announced on Monday. Moore joined three Longhorns on the first-, second- and newcomer-team list.
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American senior forward Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) and U.S. national team participant, junior defender Stephanie Logterman (Austin, Texas) were also named to the All-Big 12 First Team. Carpenter, the second-leading scorer on the team in goals (8) and points (21), and Logterman are repeat selections, earning the honors in 2005 and 2006.
Freshman forward Niki Arlitt (Houston, Texas) made the All-Big 12 Second Team and the All-Newcomer Team. Arlitt led the Longhorns in scoring with 10 goals and 25 points. She started her career strong, recording a point in her first seven career matches. She finished the regular season in the top five in the league in points and goals.
Moore, a 2006 NSCAA All-America, helped the Longhorns defense carry a 0.78 goals-against average, allowing only 13 goals in 19 matches. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native was a part of a defensive nucleus that held 14 opponents to one goal or less including eight shutouts.
On the offensive side of the ball, Moore is the third leading scorer on the Texas roster with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. She shares the team-lead in game-winning goals (GWGs) as four of her career-high eight scores are game-winners.
Moore and the rest of the Longhorns take on Colorado in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Soccer Tournament beginning Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Blossom Soccer Complex in San Antonio.
