Four Longhorns named to Big 12 All-Tournament Team
SAN ANTONIO -- Four members of the University of Texas soccer team were selected to the Big 12 Conference's All-Tournament team after the Longhorns' 1-1 shootout victory (5-4) Sunday afternoon in the tournament final. Among those selected were sophomore goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger (Sugar Land, Texas), the tournament's defensive most valuable player, and junior forward Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas), the tourney's offensive most valuable player. Joining the duo on the all-tournament team were sophomore defender Kasey Moore (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and senior midfielder Amy Burlingham (Costa Mesa, Calif.) Carpenter scored three of Texas' four goals in its three tournament matches, including a golden goal in UT's 1-0 sudden-death, double overtime victory over sixth-seeded Nebraska in the quarterfinals. Carpenter tallied Texas' first goal in its 2-0 semifinal victory over second-seeded Oklahoma State and put the Longhorns on the board Sunday in the 48th minute against Colorado. Pfenninger recorded four saves and a shutout in UT's quarterfinal win over Nebraska and held Oklahoma State scoreless behind four more saves in the Longhorns' 2-0 semifinal win over the Cowgirls. With the tournament championship on the line in the shootout session against Colorado, Pfenninger saved the fifth Buffalo kick to keep Texas' victory hopes alive.
