Eight Longhorns named to Soccer's Academic All-Big 12 teams

AUSTIN, Texas -- Eight University of Texas soccer players were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Teams, the conference announced Tuesday. Six Longhorns earned first-team honors, led by junior Emily Anderson who registered the only 4.00 GPA (accounting) in the league. Joining Anderson on the First Team were seniors Jill Gilbeau (3.78, biology/pre-vet), Stephanie Logterman (3.88, humanities/pre-med) and Courtney Gaines (3.37, education). Sophomores Erica Campanelli (3.88, liberal arts) and Kendall Campise (3.41, liberal arts) were also named to the First Team. Logterman and Gilbeau are three-time First Team selections while Gaines, Campanelli and Campise are receiving their first First Team nod. Senior Dianna Pfenninger (3.20, public relations) and sophomore Alisha Ortiz (3.20, liberal arts) were Second Team selections. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 79 first team members combined with 15 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Texas opens postseason play at the 2008 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The sixth-seeded Longhorns face third-seeded Missouri at 1:30 p.m. Central at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio. Texas has won the last two Big 12 postseason championships. |
