Soccer lands ten on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

IRVING, Texas -- Ten University of Texas Soccer players were named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced Tuesday. Texas placed five Longhorns on both the First Team and second Team for its most overall selections since 2006 and its second most in UT history. Senior Erica Campanelli (Sport Management) led the group with her third-straight First Team selection. Joining her were senior Alisha Ortiz (Government) and junior Kylie Doniak (Corporate Communications) who earned their second-straight First Team nods. Sophomore Sophie Campise (Undeclared) and Kristin Cummins (Undeclared) earned their first league accolades. Earning Second Team honors were senior Kate Nicholson (English), juniors Lucy Keith (Public Relations), Amanda Lisberger (ALD-Youth & Community Services) and Stacey-Ann Smith (Government) and sophomore Hannah Higgins (Health and Promotion Fitness). Lisberger and Nicholson each earned their second-straight Second Team selection. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 79 first team members combined with 22 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. Texas begins its postseason run on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. when it faces Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinal at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio. |
