Nine Longhorns named to Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Team

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Longhorns had nine players named to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 Team league officials announced on Tuesday.

Kristin Cummins (Government), Kyle Doniak (Corporate Communications), Nina Frausing Pedersen (Undergraduate Studies), Lucy Keith (Public Relations), Amanda Lisberger (Education: ALD - Youth & Community Studies), Stacey-Ann Smith (Government) and Gabby Zarnegar (Undergraduate Studies) were all named Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Doniak earned her third-straight First Team nod and Cummins picked up her second First Team recognition. Keith and Lisberger both earned Second Team recognition in 2010.

The seven First Team honorees was the most since 2008 when the Longhorns logged eight.

Alexa Gaul (Education: ALD - Youth & Community Studies) and Hannah Higgins (Health Promotion & Fitness) were tabbed Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. Higgins also earned second-team honors in 2010.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 70 first-team members combined with 19 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.


 

 

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria percent of participation are also eligible.
