Soccer earns three All-Big 12 honors

DALLAS -- University of Texas senior forward Kelly Wilson (Odessa, Texas) and freshmen Caitlin Kennedy (Euless, Texas) and Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) were named All-Big 12 honorees in a vote of the league's head coaches on Monday, Nov. 1. While Wilson picked up first-team All-Big 12 laurels for the fourth consecutive year, both Kennedy and Carpenter were selected to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team.

A two-time All-American, Wilson currently leads the Horns and is ranked among the top three conference players in goals (11), assists (11), points (33) and game-winning scores (4). Notably, with each of the above stats setting UT senior records in those respective categories, Wilson is presently Texas' career leader in both points (116) and assists (38) while tying for the career mark in game-winning goals (11).

Carpenter and Kennedy, on the other hand, rank second and fourth, respectively, on the team in scoring with 20 and 14 points in their inaugural campaigns. While Carpenter holds position among the top 10 league players in shots, points and assists, Kennedy has tallied at least one point in 10 of 18 matches to date and is tied with Carpenter for second on the squad in assists with six.

The Longhorns open up 2004 Big 12 Tournament action in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m. Central as they square off with No. 5 seed Nebraska in the opening round.
