Five Longhorns recognized on All-Big 12 Soccer Teams

DALLAS -- A total of five University of Texas women's soccer players were named to either the first, second or newcomer All-Big 12 teams for the 2005 campaign through a vote of the league head coaches on Monday, Oct. 31.

The five All-Big 12 selections not only tie Texas for the most among league schools as Texas A&M and Colorado each had five honorees as well, but it also gave the Longhorns their most All-Conference performers since the 2002 season when eight UT players were recognized.

Headlining this group was freshman defender Kasey Moore (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who was the only freshman included on the first team and was also tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year. Of note, Moore, who led all UT defenders in scoring with eight points and aided the Texas defense in posting six shutouts during the regular season, becomes the third Longhorn to earn the Big 12 Rookie of the Year Award following former UT standouts Kati McBain (2000) and Kelly Wilson (2001).

On the second team, the Longhorns were represented by freshman defender Stephanie Logterman (Austin, Texas), sophomore midfielder Caitlin Kennedy (Euless, Texas) and sophomore forward Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas). While Logterman played a vital role along with Moore on the UT defensive line by starting all but one game to date, Carpenter and Kennedy rank first and second, respectively, in scoring on the team as they have combined for 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists.

Rounding out the team's All-Conference selections was freshman goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger (Sugar Land, Texas), who was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team along with Moore and Logterman. In only her first season, Pfenninger owns eight wins to go along with three shutouts and 61 saves as she ranks among the top five conference goalkeepers with a 0.98 goals against average through 18 games.

The Longhorns return to action when they face No. 3 seed Iowa State in the quarterfinal round of the 2005 Big 12 Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Central. For tickets and additional information on the tournament, please log on to TexasSports.com.
