Soccer to face Iowa State in opening round of the Big 12 Championship
AUSTIN, Texas -- With the regular season for all league schools coming to a close on Sunday, Oct. 30 to determine the final conference standings, The University of Texas women's soccer team finished one point out of second place and earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Conference Soccer Championship to be held at the Blossom Athletic Complex in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 2, 4 and 6. While Texas A&M won the regular-season title with 22 points, Colorado, Iowa State, Nebraska and Kansas finished in a four-way tie for second with 19 points each before Texas (18 pts.), Oklahoma (16 pts.) and Missouri (11 pts.) rounded out the top eight teams in the league standings as well as qualifiers for the conference tournament. The second-place finishers then had their seeding determined by conference tie-breaker rules. By earning the No. 6 seed, the Longhorns (10-7-1, 6-4-0 Big 12) will meet the No. 3 seed Iowa State (11-5-3, 6-3-1 Big 12) during the tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Central. Notably, UT defeated ISU by a score of 2-1 in Ames, Iowa, earlier this season on Oct. 14 and holds an 11-1-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Cyclones, including a 2-0 mark against them during conference tournament play. Of additional note, Texas' berth in the 2005 Big 12 Soccer Championship marks the Longhorns' 11th straight league tournament appearance.
