Texas
On the road with Dianna Pfenninger

Oct. 25, 2008

Hey Texas soccer fans! First of all, I want to thank you guys for all of your support. It has been a great four years, and it's not over yet.

This weekend, we had the privilege of traveling to Kansas and playing the Jayhawks. We left campus on Thursday afternoon, and got to eat some Macaroni Grill on Thursday night--delicious! When we arrived at our hotel Thursday night, it was all business to prepare for Friday's game. After a long day of travel, we got in our comfy beds for a long night's rest.

Yesterday was a good day. We arrived at KU's stadium, and spirits were high. I even got a little field practice in before warm up as I juggled with a few friends, which I always love.

Then came game time. We started off well, and just battled the entire game. This team has so much heart, and we proved that as we kept KU out for the last 20 minutes and finished the game with the win. It was a good win for us against a tough team. As we traveled back to our hotel, girls called their families and friends to tell them about the results. Others played a game of slap jack on our bus--which is a sight, by the way. (We've got wooden floors and TV's everywhere, so we're always entertained.)

We got back from our game, had a little meeting looking ahead to our next game, Missouri. and, as is the life of a student-athlete, we ate once more. We had sandwiches, soup, and fruit--our typical away post-game meal. It was perfect finish after all of our hard work in the cold, damp weather.

Each week, the players who play the most minutes get thirty minute massages for recovery in-between games. This week, because of our travel schedule today (Saturday), we had our massages last night. One thing I noticed is that our massage therapists brought heated massage tables for us. It was great! Only at the University of Texas do athletes get treated with such care. Our coaches and staff really do give us everything we need to perform to our potential both on the field and in the classroom.

So, after another great night of rest, we are on the road again, heading to Columbia, Missouri. This morning on the bus, many of my teammates are studying hard, napping, or watching the Texas Tech vs. Kansas football game on the bus's many TV's. We're going straight to the field once we arrive in Missouri for a light session to stretch out our legs, and then will head to the hotel to watch our Longhorn football team take on Oklahoma State. The weather so far today has been beautiful, and I'm amazed that there are trees with multi-colored leaves...that doesn't happen too much in Texas.

As a senior, this is my last away trip during the course of the regular season, and it has been a great one so far. Hopefully, we will come back with another win on Sunday to complete the trip and make it even better!

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see y'all Friday night for our last home game against Baylor!

Take care and as always, Hook'Em!! --Dianna
