THE SUBJECT: Sophomore defender Karen Haight, who has not only been a key performer on the UT backline for the last two seasons, but is also a member of a group called The Sunday Night Movie Club.
What is your favorite movie theater?
"I enjoy going to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, especially to see "Mr. Sinus Theater 3000", which is a ploy off of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Basically, they play a movie, which is usually a very bad movie, and three live comedians spend the entire time making fun of it."
Have you ever been to an IMAX theater?
"I have been to the one at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland (Ore.). Actually, the first time I went to an IMAX theatre was when I was five years old. I think I saw an IMAX movie on the Grand Canyon, but I am not sure. However, I am still trying to see "Texas: The Big Picture"‚ at the Texas Museum of History. That is one of my goals that I hope to be accomplishing shortly."
What are your favorite types of movies to watch at the theater?
"I enjoy comedies. Generally, I like to have my movies be an escape from reality. I don't really enjoy high intensity movies because they stress me out. I also like seeing scary movies with the team because we all end up scaring each other more than the movie scares us."
Where do you like to sit inside the theater?
"I like to sit where pretty much everyone else likes to sit — in the middle of the row in the middle of the theatre. I also like to make sure there is no one sitting in front of me so I can put my feet up on the back of the chair."
What was the last movie you saw?
"I saw "Team America." Some of my friends and I have a group, which I am privileged to be a part of, called The Sunday Night Movie Club. However, I haven't been able to go as much this semester because of soccer. "Team America"‚ was our movie of the week - I thought it was hilarious."
How often do you go to the movies?
"Recently, it has been once every two weeks because I am a member of The Sunday Night Movie Club. Still, I wish I could go every week because it is with a really great group of people. Hopefully though, at the end of our season, I will be able to go more often. Actually, before I became a part of that club, I used to watch a movie only once every two months."
What is the one movie you remember watching most?
"I remember watching "Bring it On" with my mom. We were dying in our seats because we thought it was so funny. Then, when we came home, we woke up my dad because we had made up some cheer and we wanted to show it to him. My poor dad was completely oblivious to what was going on. He was just wondering why we were jumping up and down in the middle of the living room. I thought that was pretty fun."
What kind of food do you like to get at the theatre?
"I don't really like to buy movie theater food because it is really expensive. I am actually also not a big fan of the popcorn either. Even so, sometimes my friends and I will go to a convenience store and buy some food before the movie. Usually, I will get a bag of Reese's Pieces."
Do you like to watch movies when they premier or do like to wait a while?
"It is pretty rare that I see a movie right when it comes out because I don't usually keep up with the promos. As a result, I don't know when some movies come out. Still, if I do see the trailer and think it will be a good movie, I try to see it as soon as I can."
