AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas freshman goalkeeper Alexa Gaul has been named the Big 12 Conference Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Oct. 2-4, the league announced. It is the first conference accolade for Gaul and the Longhorns' first weekly honor this season.

The freshman followed up that performance with a career-high seven saves in the Horns' 2-1 win over No. 19/25 Kansas (Oct. 4). In conference action, Gaul is tied for first in saves with 20 and ranks No. 2 with an .870 save percentage. She also ranks fifth in overall matches with a .776 save percentage and is seventh with 38 saves.
