Kennedy and Pfenninger tabbed Big 12 Players of the Week
DALLAS -- After helping the Longhorns to victories over Baylor and No. 13 Texas A&M last weekend, University of Texas sophomore midfielder Caitlin Kennedy and freshman goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger were named the Big 12 Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, by the league office on Tuesday, Oct. 4. While the weekly conference honors marks the first of both player's careers, they give the Longhorns three weekly league accolades in 2005 as freshman defender Kasey Moore was selected the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Aug. 29. Additionally, Kennedy's honor was the first weekly conference offensive laurel received by a UT player since Oct. 26, 2004 (Kelly Wilson). Kennedy (Euless, Texas) began the past week's action by netting her first goal of the year and picking up an assist against Baylor on Sept. 30. While her three points against the Bears marked and individual-game, career high, it also helped the Horns score a 3-0 win to secure their first conference victory of the season. The Preseason All-Big 12 selection then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over No. 13 Texas A&M on Oct. 2 to complete the weekend with five points. Notably, following the weekend's action, Kennedy is now tied for the team scoring lead with six points on the year as she paces the club in league scoring with two goals and one assist to her credit. Meanwhile, Pfenninger (Sugar Land, Texas) not only posted her first career shutout with two saves opposite the Bears on Sept. 30, but also made a career-best seven saves against No. 13 Texas A&M on Oct. 2 to preserve a 2-1 victory. On the year, Pfenninger, who is 3-3 overall, now ranks among the top 10 league keepers in goals against average (0.97), saves (28), shutouts (1) and saves percentage (.800). The Longhorns (5-5-1, 2-2-0 Big 12) return to action on Friday, Oct. 7 with a 7 p.m. Central match against Colorado (5-5-2, 2-2-0 Big 12) at Myers Stadium.
