Gaines named Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Sept. 23, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas - University of Texas senior midfielder Courtney Gaines was named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor is the first of Gaines' career and the third Big 12 accolade for UT this season. Senior Dianna Pfenninger (defensive) and freshman Courtney Goodson (newcomer) received the league nod on Sept. 9.
Gaines had a role in three of No. 7 Texas' four goals over the weekend. In the 2-1 double-overtime win at TCU on Friday, she assisted on the game-winning goal in the 105th minute.
With UT trailing 1-0 against No. 18 California at home on Sunday, Gaines sent a perfect corner kick into the middle of the box, where Goodson headed it in to tie the game. Gaines then assisted on Kasey Moore's game-winning goal with 40 seconds left in regulation.
The No. 7 Longhorns open Big 12 Conference play when they host No. 10 Texas A&M on Friday, Sept. 26 in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown. First kick is set for 7 p.m. (Central) at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
