LONGHORNS UPDATE
· The Texas soccer team is off to its best start in program history. The Longhorns' 6-2 mark is an improvement from their prior season-opening best starts of 5-3, which were posted through the first eight matches of the 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2004. UT boasts two three-match win streaks this season. The two losses were decided by one goal.

· UT opens Big 12 action this week on the road with 7 pm matches at Texas Tech (Friday, Sept. 22) and at Baylor (Sunday, Sept. 24).

· The  Longhorns holds the advantage over Texas Tech since the teams started playing during Texas' inaugural season on Sept. 11 in 1994. The Longhorns recorded the first shutout in program history, beating the Red Raiders, 5-0. Since then, Texas has been victorious in eight matches, has dropped three contests and tied one game against TTU.

· Texas is riding a six-match win streak against Texas Tech, shutting out the Red Raiders in three of those outings. The streak began with a 3-0 win on Sept. 24, 2000, and continued through last season's 6-0 decision in Austin, Texas (Oct. 9, 2005).

· In 2005, the Longhorns won the match by a score of 6-0 on Oct. 9. The six UT goals was the largest offensive performance of the season. Then-sophomor Caitlin Kennedy (Euless, Texas) scored two goals and then-junior Ashley Foster (Athens, Ga.) recorded three assists in the dominating win and fifth shut out of the year.

· Texas has scored more goals (41) against Texas Tech than any other opponent in school history.

· The Longhorns lead the all-time series against Baylor, 6-5-1. Texas has scored a total of 21 goals against the Bears and allowed 16.

· Texas has won five of the last six meetings against Baylor. UT shutout the Bears, 3-0, in Austin on Sept. 30, 2005.  Amy Burlingham (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kennedy recorded three points apiece in the win and then-newcomer Dianna Pfenninger (Sugar Land, Texas) won the first game of her career.

· Texas has already scored 17 goals in only eight matches (2.2 per game) compared to 34 goals in 21 games during the entire 2005 season. Through eight games in 2005, UT only registered eight goals.

· Looking ahead to next weekend, Texas makes its 2006 television debut with a home contest against Oklahoma on ESPNU on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 pm (Central). Prior to that contest, the Longhorns host Oklahoma State (Presented by H-E-B) on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 pm (Central).
