MATCH #8: Texas (3-4-0) vs. New Mexico (6-0-1) Texas football connection ... Fans who attend Saturday's Texas Tech football game can watch the Longhorns match vs. New Mexico on Sunday for free by bringing their football ticket stub to Mike A. Myers Stadium. About the Series ... UT also holds a 3-0-0 advantage over the Lobos. In the teams' one meeting in Austin, Texas won 4-0 (Aug. 30, 2002). Spreading the Offense Around... Eight different Longhorns account for the Longhorns 10 goals this season. Of that group, six are underclassmen (two freshmen, four sophomores), two have been from players off the bench, two from the midfield and one from the defense. Underclassmen making immediate impact...UT's freshmen and sophomores have made an immediate impact for the Horns through six games this season. Eight of UT's 10 goals have come from the underclassmen while the group also accounts for 51 of Texas' 77 starting positions (.662) over the first seven matches. Goodson Brings in the Goals ... With her two goals against California (Sept. 6), sophomore Courtney Goodson recorded the second multi-goal game of her career. With two mutli-goal matches under her belt, Goodson becomes one of 15 athletes in program history to record more than one 2+ goal match in a career. She is also the first to accomplish the feat since she did it a year ago against Arizona (Sept. 17, 2008). Arlitt racking up the Assists ... Junior Niki Arlitt has quickly picked up three assists in the Longhorns' first six matches, tying her 2008 season total. The mid/forward is also two short of cracking into UT's career record book for assists as she currently has 11 total dishes. Arlitt's one goal and three assists (five points) also tie her point total from a year ago. Myers Advantage ... The Longhorns host 12 opponents during the 2009 season, marking the most home matches in program history. Since 2002, Texas has posted a home record of 59-8-7 (.845) since 2002 and owns a record of 79-18-8 (.790) since Myers opened in 1999. Goodson and Arlitt back on top ... Junior Niki Arlitt and sophomore Courtney Goodson are currently 1-2 on the team in points, with Arlitt at five and Goodson tied for second with four. The two are familiar with that spot as Arlitt finished the 2007 season atop the team (tied with Kelsey Carpenter) with 25 points (10 goals, 5 assists) and Goodson shared the team lead a year ago with 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists). Last time out vs. Washington State (Sept. 18)... Texas dropped a 4-0 decision to Washington State Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Four different Cougars scored, three of which occured in the first half.
