Soccer moves up in rankings, Foster nets offensive accolades

AUSTIN, Texas -- UT senior forward Ashley Foster (Athens, Ga.) was named Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

In its eighth-year under current head coach Chris Petrucelli, the Texas soccer team moved up in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas poll, jumping from No. 23 to No. 16 with three wins last week. UT recorded a 4-2 win at LSU in Baton Rouge, La.; logged a 5-0 victory at home against Nicholls State and earned a 3-2 decision over Cal State Fullerton in Austin. Texas outscored its opponents 12-4 in this past week's matches.

Foster scored two goals and added one assist for a career-high five-point match against Nicholls State on Friday. She assisted the first goal of the game at the 19:03 mark and two goals followed within two minutes to put the game out of reach for the Colonels. Against LSU and Cal State-Fullerton, Foster took a six shots, combined, and helped the Longhorns remain undefeated at home in 2006.

Foster entered the year with 26 points on nine goals and eight assists in 63 matches for her career. This season, she ranks second on the team in points with seven on three goals and one assist.

The offensive attack for Texas has come to life, just in time to open Big 12 Conference action this weekend. The Longhorns travel to Texas Tech for a Friday, Sept. 22, contest in Lubbock and then take the field on Sunday, Sept. 24, against Baylor in Waco. Both game times are set for 7 p.m. Central.
