DALLAS -- University of Texas freshman Kasey Moore was tabbed the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office on Monday, Aug. 29.
While the conference weekly accolade marks the first for any Longhorns player this season and is the first of Moore's (Mission Viejo, Calif.) career, it is also the first Big 12 Newcomer honor picked up by a UT player since Oct. 19, 2004 (Kelsey Carpenter).
During the past week, Moore not only started both of the Longhorns matches in the center of their defensive back line, but also aided the club in posting consecutive shutouts of SMU (8/26) and Auburn (8/28) en route to opening the 2005 campaign with a 2-0 record. Texas' current leader in shots with eight over two contests, Moore also netted her first career goal against the Tigers on Aug. 28, which proved to be the game-winner in a 2-0 UT victory.
Moore and the Longhorns return to action on Friday, Sept. 2 when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the Michigan Wolverines in a 6 p.m. Central match.
