Smith, U.S. U-20 team play to 1-1 draw versus China PR

United States vs. China PR highlights and stats HIROSHIMA, Japan - University of Texas freshman goalkeeper Abby Smith and the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team played to a 1-1 draw against China PR in the Americans' second group-stage match of the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on Thursday evening inside Hiroshima Big Arch Stadium. The USA outshot China 17-3, but could not send the winning tally past China PR goalkeeper Shen Li. For the second-straight contest, U.S. goalkeeper Bryane Heaberlin played the entire game and Smith did not enter as a substitute. The Americans can advance to the quarterfinals with a win or a draw against Germany in their final Group D match on Monday, Aug. 27, at Miyagi Stadium in Rifu, Japan. The contest will feature the event's only two-time champions in the USA (2002 U-19 and 2008 U-20 titles) and Germany (2004 U-19 and 2010 U-20 crowns). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN3 starting at 1:50 a.m. Central. The top two teams from each group advance to the Aug. 30-31 quarterfinals, with the winners playing in the semifinals on Sept. 4.
