After a week and a half of intense preseason training out at Mike A. Myers Stadium, The University of Texas soccer team will get a chance to put its hard work into play as it hosts an exhibition match against Louisiana State on Saturday, August 14 at 7 p.m. out at Myers Field. Admission is free to the public and the match will also be live streamed on TexasSports.tv.

Saturday's scrimmage marks the second-straight year the two squads have faced off in a preseason exhibition match after the Horns travelled to LSU a year ago, resulting in a 2-1 loss at LSU Soccer Complex. In regular season meetings, Texas holds the advantage 3-0-1 and have a 2-0-1 record while playing in Austin.

Texas returns 13 players from last year's roster that accounted for 79 percent of the starting positions (182 out of a possible 231) and 70 percent of its scoring (49 out of a possible 71 points). In addition, six of the upperclassmen have each played in at least 30 games during their career.

The Horns also welcomed seven newcomers including the No. 1 recruit in the state of Texas last year, Lexi Harris (Plano, Texas). The defender is joined by freshmen Gabby Zarnegar (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Nina Frausing Pedersen (Silkeburg, Denmark) and Brenda Saucedo (Spring, Texas) along with sophomore Kara Hoffman (Houston, Texas), junior Stacey-Ann Smith (Bloomfield, Conn.) and senior Kate Incerto (Houston, Texas).

Texas picked up a pair of preseason individual honors as senior defender Erica Campanelli was recently named to the 11-player Preseason All-Big 12 team and sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Gaul is one of 45 players nationally to be named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

In 2009, Texas posted a 9-9-3 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio. LSU won its third-straight SEC Western Division championship a year ago and earned a berth to the NCAA Championship for the third year in a row.

The Texas regular season begins on the road with a match at N.C. State on Friday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. Central.
