AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas soccer team earned a No. 8 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches of America Association's (NSCAA) preseason poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Longhorns return 18 letterwinners, including eight starters, from the 2007 campaign that featured UT's second-straight Big 12 Postseason Title, the program's third Round of 16 appearance in the NCAA Championship over the last four years and a midseason No. 1 national ranking. UT's 16-4-5 finish last season earned it the No. 11 spot in the NSCAA's final poll, the program's second-best mark in history.
Defending NCAA Champion Southern California is No. 1 in the first edition of the NSCAA poll. NCAA College Cup finalist UCLA is second, ahead of No. 3 North Carolina and fourth-ranked Florida State. Two other Big 12 schools open the season nationally-ranked, No. 15 Texas A&M and No. 23 Oklahoma State, while Missouri and Colorado also received votes.
After a preseason scrimmage at Loyola-Marymount on Saturday, Aug. 16 in Los Angeles at 3 p.m. Central, the Longhorns begin the regular season at home (Mike A.
