Texas Soccer to open practice on Thursday, Aug. 12
AUSTIN, Texas -- A total of 18 letterwinners, including 10 starters off a 2003 club that finished second in theBig 12, and the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation according to Soccer America reported to campus on Tuesday, Aug. 10 as The University of Texas women's soccer program prepares to begin preseason practice for the upcoming 2004 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 12. Sixth-year head coach Chris Petrucelli and his staff will look to improve on four consecutive double-digit win seasons and three straight NCAA Tournament berths with a squad that includes two NSCAA All-Americans in Kelly Wilson (Odessa, Texas) and Kelly McDonald (Littleton, Colo.) as well as four NSCAA All-Central region performers and five All-Big 12 honorees. Additionally, with Wilson and sophomore Nikki Thaden (Clive, Iowa) on the roster, this year's team also has among its ranks two members of the U.S. Under-21 National Team that captured the 2004 Nordic Cup title this past summer. The Longhorns begin regular practices on Thursday, Aug. 12 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field (located on Clyde Littlefield Dr. between Red River St. and Robert Dedman Dr.). Please note that all practices, which are primarily held from 9-11 a.m. and 7:30-9 p.m. Central during the preseason and do include scrimmages, are open to the public. Additionally, all dates and times listed are subject to change. While Texas will officially open the 2004 season at home on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Central against Clemson in a match presented by Texadelphia, the Longhorns will take part in one preseason exhibition on the road at UCLA on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. Tickets for the 2004 regular season are now on sale at all Texas Box Office locations or can be purchased by phone at either (512) 471-3333 or 1-800-982-BEVO or over the Internet at TexasBoxOffice.com.
