Aug. 9, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Soccer program will have 12 home matches broadcast for the 2012 season on Longhorn Network. The first broadcast will be the Longhorns' exhibition contest on Friday, Aug. 10, against Texas State at 7 p.m.
"I'm very, very excited about Longhorn Network," Texas Soccer head coach Angela Kelly said. "There is no other institution that has the ability to broadcast each home match live with an ESPN-quality production. The people at Longhorn Network are the consummate professionals. The quality is fantastic. I'm really excited to have the ability to be on this platform and share everything that is Texas with all of our fans."
ESPN's Monica Gonzalez will serve as analyst and Glenn Davis will handle play-by-play duties for the first two matches. Gonzalez is a former member of the Mexico national women's team and was part of the 2004 Olympic team. Davis is a former U.S. professional soccer player and was a NAIA All-American.
Texas Soccer begins a new era Friday, Aug. 10, as it marks the debut of Kelly. After spending 12 years guiding the University of Tennessee program, Kelly was hired to take over the Longhorns on Dec. 19, 2011.
Kelly brings a 160-84-20 (.644) record into Austin along with five NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances, four Southeastern Conference Championship titles and a trio of SEC regular season crowns.
She was a four-year letterwinner at the University of North Carolina (1991-94) under head coach Anson Dorrance. Kelly helped the Tar Heels to a 97-1-1 record during her career to go along with four NCAA Tournament titles, four Atlantic Coast Conference regular season crowns and four ACC Tournament championships.
