Soccer set to open 2006 campaign
AUSTIN, Texas -- Head coach Chris Petrucelli and the 2006 University of Texas women's soccer team will begin this year¹s journey to the NCAA Women's College Cup when the squad reports to campus for preseason practice on Tuesday, August 8, 2006. The Horns will practice over the next two weeks before the season-opener at Auburn on August 25. The Longhorns play one home exhibition game, taking on UT-San Antonio at 7:00 p.m. Central on Friday, August 18 at Mike Meyers Stadium. The meeting will be the first in program history between the two schools and UTSA's first as a Division I program. The regular season officially begins with a road contest at Auburn on August 25 at 6:00 p.m. Central. Penn State (Sept 1) and Illinois (Sept 3) kick off the home portion of the schedule with matches during Labor Day weekend. Among the 15 returning lettermen, the Longhorns welcome back every player who scored a goal during the 2005 campaign. Six seniors lead the experienced and talented group and NSCAA All-Central Region selections Kelsey Carpenter, Caitlin Kennedy and Kasey Moore are among the Horns that are ready to take the field. All practices are held at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium and are open to the public. Times are approximate and subject to change.
