Meet the newcomers: Lindsey Meyer

July 17, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas -- Lindsey Meyer was was a four-year captain of the Dallas Texans 94 Red. She helped the team become Premier League Champions four years in a row (2007-10), and in 2009, they were the Southern Regional Champions and National Championship finalists.

She was a four-year starter in high school and was team captain her junior and senior years. She received first team all-district honors her freshman, sophomore and junior years, and was named the District Co-Utility Player of the Year in 2010.

Meyer was named Coppell High School's Outstanding Female Athlete in 2010 and also played basketball and was a regional qualifier in the high jump in 2010 and 2011.

Meyer recently spent some time with TexasSports.com as she prepares for her freshman season with the Longhorns.

As a native Texan, are you excited to attend The University of Texas and represent the burnt orange in competition? I'm glad that I'm staying in state. My grandfather played sports at Texas too, so that also helped convince me. It's cool.

How did your multi-sport background build you into a soccer student-athlete? I also played varsity basketball my freshman year of high school. We'd have 6:30 a.m. practices for soccer then practice after school for basketball. I did that through my sophomore year, and then it became too much. High jump didn't require too much of me, so I kept training. My dad is really athletic, so I think I got the gene. I just enjoy soccer, and I realized I had a future in it.

What excites you about training under Coach Kelly and her staff? I feel like they care about us people, not just as players. It's cool that they'll get involved and do workouts with us. It helps you work harder when they're out there.

What are your early impressions of the summer conditioning plan, and what are your goals personally before you arrive for preseason? It's really, really intense. I'm working to get all my times for August. I just want to be in good enough shape so I can sustain our workouts in training and do well.

What are your academic plans while studying at UT? I need to figure out how college really works, because it will surely be more challenging than high school. My goal is to do well and try to make all-academic teams. I'll take my first year to get adjusted and figure out a major.
