Extra minutes with Erica: July 6
July 6, 2009
Hey Texas Fans,
I'm still in New York for two more weeks and everything is starting to really pick up here in the Hudson Valley. For the first time all summer we just had two full days off for the holiday weekend. It was such a blast to get to go out to Long Island and relax at the beach with my family, and enjoy some tasty barbecue and gorgeous fireworks over the horizon.
As far as soccer is concerned, we get back on the pitch today to continue our training as we approach the last five games of our season. Last week we headed to New Jersey to play our make-up game from when we got rained out the first time. After a bunch of confusion trying to schedule the game, and figuring out our transportation, we were able to beat New Jersey 3-0. This was an exciting game for us as we were able to get almost every player minutes to reward the hard work everyone has contributed to this team day in and day out.
Right now, we are sitting in an exciting position because we are 8-0-1 and are competing for the No. 1 seed in the nation heading into playoffs. Not only would that be a great accomplishment and give us a boost of confidence, we would automatically advance to the final four. In addition, we would then have a good possibility of hosting the tournament in the Hudson Valley with all of our great fans to support us.
Before we can get too excited about earning the top seed, first we have to take care of business in Long Island this Wednesday. Last time we played Long Island it was a very intense game that we ended up winning 4-2 thanks to Whitney Palmer's first hat-trick as a Lady Blue. We know that Wednesday will be a competitive game so we are looking forward to another challenge on the road.
I can't wait to see you guys again in a couple week and hope you had a wonderful 4th of July!
