AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas and the Austin Aztex professional soccer club have teamed up to host the first State Farm Copa Aztex, an annual soccer match that will feature two premier Mexican professional soccer teams.

This year's match, the first of a three-year agreement between the Aztex and UT Athletics, will feature Cruz Azul of Mexico City and Tigres of Monterrey squaring off at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the UT campus. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Central on Saturday, July 18.

The high-level match -- Cruz Azul and Tigres of Monterrey are two of the most popular teams in Mexico -- will cap off a day of fun-filled fan events at Myers Stadium.

"These teams have significant fan followings, combined with our soccer community here in Texas. This is big-time professional soccer and it's a chance to see it up close and personal -- along with an atmosphere inside the stadium that we've only seen on TV," UT Soccer coach Chris Petrucelli said. "It's an event that's good for soccer, and if it's good for soccer, then Texas Soccer wants to be involved.

"Myers Stadium is set up perfectly to host an international match. It's kind of like we're having a fiesta here in Myers Stadium, and we welcome everyone to come out."

Tickets for the State Farm Copa Aztex go on sale Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Central. Tickets are priced at $30 and $50 and are available at all Texas Box Office locations (including the Frank Erwin Center), TexasBoxOffice.com or by calling 800-982-BEVO (2386).

Along with what is expected to be an exciting match, State Farm, H-E-B, Bud Light and Univision will present the "Univision Radio presenta El Golazo Musical" featuring food, prizes, giveaways, a beer garden and live music. Gates open at 4 p.m.

It will be an historic event, the first-ever of its kind in Austin. And Myers Stadium provides the perfect stage.

"The University of Texas is helping us host this fabulous occasion with the fabulous facility they have over there at Myers. It has the size, but, more importantly for the players, the surface," Austin Aztex coach Adrian Heath said. "I just had a look at it, and it makes me want to get my boots on again."
