Off-season drills: Kelsey Carpenter
Each week during the remainder of the spring semester, TexasSports.com will catch up with a different UT soccer player to get their perspectives about soccer and the off-season, as well as some interesting facts about themselves. This week's player is sophomore forward Kelsey Carpenter. While Kelsey loves the regular season, she also enjoys all kinds of fun things that Austin has to offer her. What is your favorite part of the off-season? "I definitely like the soccer part of the off-season more than the fitness part. It's a time to be more relaxed about the game and really work on our development to become a better overall team. Personally, I think that I have improved on my fitness the most in the last few months." What are you looking forward to most during the upcoming 2006 soccer season? "I love so much about the regular season, especially Friday night games under the lights. I'm also really looking forward to playing some new teams that we have never played before. We have a great non-conference schedule lined up right now and I'm hoping we go far into the postseason -- getting a chance to face new competitors there, as well." What is your favorite place on campus? "I love the architecture of Gregory Gym and think the new outdoor pool is amazing. I feel like I am at a country club when I walk outside by the new pools. I have only been swimming there once, but am hoping to spend some more time there this summer." What do you like to do for fun when you're not playing soccer? "I like to hang out with my friends, go to concerts, float the Guadalupe River and just have time to watch TV and relax." Do you prefer the beach or the snow? " I definitely prefer the beach. I love going to Destin (Fla.). I also went on a cruise in seventh grade to an island called Coco Cay, which was beautiful. A snow skiing trip is one of my favorite vacations, but I hate the cold weather and would rather be at the beach."
