AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Soccer team will play 18 regular season matches in the 2012 season, with 11 of the contests hosted at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the UT campus, head coach Angela Kelly announced on Friday.
Eight opponents who advanced to NCAA Tournament play in 2011 highlight the slate, including Dayton, Toledo, Virginia, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Baylor and West Virginia.
Following a home exhibition against Texas State on Aug. 10, the Longhorns open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 17 against Dayton. The Longhorns travel to for a match at Arkansas, before UT plays four-straight at home in late August and September. North Carolina State and Toledo will visit the Forty Acres, then UT hosts the Longhorn Invitational on Friday, Aug. 31 (Virginia) and Sunday, Sept. 2 (New Mexico).
The Longhorns lone multi-game non-conference road swing takes them to Utah for games at BYU (Sept. 6) and Utah (Sept. 8).
UT closes out non-conference play with Friday-Sunday home matches against Fresno State (Sept. 14) and Denver (Sept. 16).
The Longhorns open Big 12 play at home with matches against Oklahoma State (Oct. 5), Texas Tech (Oct. 12) and Kansas (Oct. 14). UT closes out the regular season with Big 12 newcomer West Virginia (Oct. 26) at home.
The 2012 campaign will mark Kelly’s first with the Longhorns after previously coaching the Tennessee Lady Vols for 12 seasons. During her tenure on Rocky Top, the Lady Vols won three-straight SEC regular-season titles and four SEC Tournament crowns. Kelly was also honored as SEC Coach of the Year from 2003-05.
