Soccer runs past Oral Roberts

ALLEN, Texas -- Riding a shutout effort from goalkeeper Dana Hall (Kingwood, Texas) and scoring five goals in the second half, The University of Texas women's soccer team earned a 7-0 win over Oral Roberts during a spring exhibition match at Celebration Park on Saturday, April 9.

In the 31st minute, freshman Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) gave the Horns a 1-0 lead as she tallied her team-best sixth goal of the spring. UT then added another goal three minutes later to push on top 2-0 prior to the halftime intermission.

During the second half of play, Texas' offensive attack continued to pressure the ORU goal and managed to find the back of the net five times in a 12-minute span. Included in that scoring stretch were goals from Amy Burlingham (Costa Mesa, Calif.) in the 55th minute off an assist from Stephanie Logterman (Austin, Texas), Priscilla Fite (Irving, Texas) off a corner kick taken by Carrie Schmit (La Mesa, Calif.) and Carpenter. Hall and the Texas defense, meanwhile, kept Oral Roberts in check over the entire 90-minute match en route to posting the shutout victory.

Leading the way for the Horns' offense was Carpenter, who tallied a pair of goals in the match, and the duo of Burlingham and Fite, who each posted three points with a goal and an assist apiece.

Up next, the Longhorns wrap up their spring exhibition season on Wednesday, April 13, with a 7 p.m. Central game against the Lonestars Soccer Club at the Central Williamson County Park in Cedar Park, Texas. Notably, the match will be played on Field #7 and the park is located on the corner of Sam Bass and 1431.
