AUSTIN, Texas -- Former University of Texas forward Kelly Wilson (Odessa, Texas) was named one of 58 fall student-athletes nationwide to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
While Wilson becomes the first Texas soccer player to be awarded with such a distinction, she is also the 23rd NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in school history.
The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are given to a selected group of student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. There are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women during each of the three seasons. The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.
A two-time All-American and 2004 First-Team Academic All-American, Wilson concluded her four-year career on the Forty Acres as the school record holder for starts (84), appearances (84), assists (41), points (129) and game-winning goals (13). The four-time, first-team All-Big 12 selection was also up for the Hermann Trophy three times as well as the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Award twice and was tabbed UT's fourth recipient of an NCAA Today's Top VIII Award in December.
