Texas notches 2-0 exhibition win over Ted's All-Stars
AUSTIN, Texas -- By scoring two goals for the second time in as many spring matches, Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) led The University of Texas women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Ted's All-Stars at Myers Stadium on Saturday, March 5. Notably, the exhibition win marked the first of the spring preseason for the Longhorns. Played in steady rain throughout, the match remained scoreless through the first 30-plus minutes. Then, in the 34th minute of action, Carpenter broke loose behind the opposing defense and slotted a breakaway shot past the goalkeeper to stake Texas to a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Carpenter again moved into the All-Star's end on a breakaway and scored her fourth goal of the spring exhibition season to push UT in front by a score of 2-0. While the score remained 2-0 at halftime, the All-Star's tried to mount a comeback in the second period, but outside of a shot off the post in the final minutes, UT goalkeepers Dana Hall (Kingwood, Texas) and Melissa Adrouny (Monte Sereno, Calif.) made the two-goal lead stand up. Texas' offense, meanwhile, had a couple of point-blank opportunities turned aside during the second half as the Longhorns wound up coming away with the 2-0 shutout victory.
