Soccer drops 3-2 exhibition match to Region 3 ODP Team
AUSTIN, Texas -- Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) scored two second-half goals, but The University of Texas women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 exhibition match to the Region 3 ODP Team at Myers Stadium on Friday, Feb. 25. Notably, the game marked the first of five spring exhibition matches for the Horns in 2005.
Despite a number of quality scoring chances by the Longhorns and the UT defense limiting the Region 3 squad to only one shot in the first half, the game remained scoreless at halftime.
In the second period, Carpenter put Texas in front 1-0 during the 54th minute as she rocketed a shot into the upper right corner of the net. Eleven minutes later, ODP knotted the score at 1-1 off a penalty kick before pulling in front for the first time in the match during the 69th minute as a corner kick was redirected into the back of the UT goal. Carpenter then tied the game at 2-2 six minutes later as she used a half volley off a corner to beat the ODP goalkeeper.
Later in the half with the game still deadlock at 2-2, ODP sprung one of its forwards behind the Texas defense off a long punt. The forward then fired a low shot under a diving Melissa Adrouny (Monte Sereno, Calif.) to give ODP a 3-2 lead. While the Horns looked for the equalizer in the waning moments by forcing two corner kicks, ODP held their one-goal advantage to come away with the victory.
