Oct. 24, 2008
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- University of Texas senior Kasey Moore connected on her fifth goal of the season in the 21st minute to lead the No. 10 Longhorns to a 1-0 win at Kansas, Friday afternoon. Texas moves to 11-2-3 on the season and 4-2-2 in Big 12 play while the Jayhawks drop to 3-4-1 in league action and 10-6-1 overall.
Sophomore Erica Campanelli collected her first assist of the season after sending a pass up the right line to Moore who was waiting in the KU penalty box. The senior took the ball a little deeper toward the goal line before sending a hard shot to the lower left side of the net for third gamewinner of the season.
KU's best look of the first half came in the 40th minute after it earned a pair of corner kicks. Junior Monica Dolinsky was able to get a foot on the second kick but her shot was blocked by the Texas back line.
The second half was a battle in the midfield with neither team able to get a good look on goal. The Longhorn defense only allowed one shot on frame, which came just four minutes into the second period.
Kansas held the advantage in shots, 13-10, and corners, 7-4, giving the Longhorns their second win of the season when being outshot by their opponent.
Texas takes on No. 20 Missouri on Sunday, Oct. 26, in its final regular-season road match of the year. First whistle is set for 1 p.m. Central. The match will be broadcast tape-delay on ESPNU at 4:30 p.m.
On the team's play in the second half: Our thought really in the second half was really to kill the game as much as we could. We had the lead and we just didn't want to give that up.
On the defense' s solid performance: They didn't get any great looks. I thought we were pretty solid defensively.
On how Missouri will be different than Kansas: They are a totally different type of team. They are a very aggressive, physical team and that will be a hard game for us.
