Soccer ties Colorado, 0-0, in double overtime
Sept. 26, 2010
BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Texas Soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime tie against Colorado, Sunday afternoon in Boulder, Colo. It is the second tie of the season for the Horns, who are now 6-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in Big 12 action.
Colorado, who entered the game with back-to-back wins over top 10 ranked opponents, came out pressuring early, forcing sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Gaul to make two saves in the first 15 minutes. With the ball staying in the middle third of the field for the majority of regulation, Texas was only able to produce one shot on goal from junior Kylie Doniak in the 11th minute. Gaul made some impressive saves during the first two periods, stopping one-on-ones and shots from long range.
Texas upped the pressure in the overtime periods, finding its best look of the match from redshirt freshman Leah Fortune just three minutes into the first set of extra minutes. Junior Amanda Lisberger made a cross into the middle of the box that Fortune one-touched towards the goal. CU keeper Annie Brunner punched the shot out but the redshirt freshman was there to collect the rebound and fire it again, but this time Brunner was able to make the save and hold onto the ball.
Colorado outshot the Longhorns 12-8 and held the shots on goal advantage 5-2. Gaul posted five saves to Brunner's two.
The Longhorns return home to host UW-Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. Central, then head to Lawrence, Kansas to resume Big 12 play with a match at 1 p.m. Central.

On what he takes away from the weekend as a whole: I think getting a point in the Big 12 today was good. It could end up being a big point and you're always happy when you can get points on the road. We certainly now understand what it is like to play in the league, especially for our young girls, it's a really good learning experience because playing in the Big 12 is different than what we've played up to this point.
