Soccer falls to San Diego, 2-1 at USC Invitational

LOS ANGELES -- The Texas Longhorns fell to the San Diego Toreros on the first day of action at the USC Trojan Invitational at McAlister Field on Friday afternoon. Texas fell behind early as San Diego’s Stephanie Ochs notched a pair of goals. She scored her first goal in the 19th minute on a breakaway beating a hard-charging Alexa Gaul who came off her line in the Texas goal. Ochs added her second goal in the 30th minute on a shot to the far left post from the center. The Longhorns cut the lead to 2-1 in the 74th minute on a free kick. Taylor Knaack put the ball into play and Kylie Doniak headed in a ricochet from Lucy Keith for her fifth goal of the season. Doniak’s goal was the 18th of her career, putting her in 10th place on UT’s career list. Texas lost despite holding a 13-12 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Gaul made five saves in goal for Texas. San Diego’s Courtney Parsons made six saves in a full 90 minutes for the win. The Longhorns fell to 5-2-0 on the season while the Toreros improved to 5-2-0. Texas returns to action on Sunday when it battles the USC Women of Troy in a 12:30 p.m. contest.
