AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas head coach Carie Graves has announced the signing of five rowers for the 2010-11 academic year. The Longhorns signed Michelle Beck (Redding, Conn.), Jessica Glennie (Auckland, New Zealand), Lauren Lehman (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Olivia Nail (St. Catharine's, Ontario) and Tea Vrtlar (Split, Croatia) to round out Texas' fall signing class.

"I'm looking forward to working with this fantastic incoming freshman class," Graves said. "This class has a wealth of international experience, which will add a lot to the group that we already have. Our returners, walk-ons and this class will help us continue to move ahead next year."

Beck rows for The Gunnery rowing club in Redding where she currently serves as team captain after earning most valuable rower accolades in 2009. She helped her varsity four boat to a bronze medal at the 2009 Head of the Connecticut and paced her boat to a fifth-place finish at the 2008 New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships.

Glennie, a five-sport athlete at Macleans College, comes to Texas after a decorated prep rowing career. The current high school senior rows for St. George Rowing Club as well as Macleans. She has won sculler of the year honors the past two years at Macleans and added rower of the year honors in 2009. In 2009, she was a member of the undefeated North Island team and in 2008 she claimed a silver medal in the U21 eights race at the North Island Championships.

Lehman joins the Longhorns after rowing for Marina Aquatic Center in Manhattan Beach. In 2009, Lehman was invited to the U.S. Junior Rowing Selection Camp. As a junior she helped her novice four boat to a silver medal at the Southwest Regional Championships and claimed a bronze medal with the novice eight at the same event.

Nail will join four St. Catharine's Rowing Club alums on the Texas Rowing team. An accomplished rower already, Nail captured gold in the U19 women's 2- at the 2009 St. Catharine's Invitational. In 2008, she earned a bronze in the junior women's eight at the Canadian Secondary Rowing Championships. She added a gold medal finish in the junior B-four at the 2009 Royal Canadian Henley.

Vrtlar comes to Texas from the Mornar Rowing Club in Split, Croatia. An accomplished international rower, Vrtlar earned a seventh-place finish in the 1x at the 2008 state championships, a 10th-place finish at the 2007 Bled International Regatta and a bronze medal at the 2006 state championships.
