Rowing posts strong showing at Head of the Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY -- In its first day at the Head of the Oklahoma, the Texas Rowing team placed three pairs in the top five of the women's collegiate pair and eight pairs in the top 11. The Horns also placed their first and third eight boat in the top seven of the women's collegiate eight, Saturday afternoon at Regatta Park in Oklahoma City. In Texas' first event of the day it's first eight boat recorded a fifth place finish in the collegiate eight, while the Horns' third eight boat finished second and the second eight boat posted a 12th place finish. The first boat registered a time of 14:51.365, the third boat finished in 15:08.801 and the second boat crossed the finish line in 15:38.949. The first boat's crew was comprised of coxswain Mary Cait McPherson, Lindsey Foster, Emily Tingey, Kelli Garrett, Lucy Mulvey, Nancy Arrington, Carly Gloge, Alex Janss and Dorothy Baden-Mayer. In the women's collegiate pair the tandem of Luise Fleischhauer and Mulvey placed third with a time of 17:23.398, while the team of Hilary Corbett and Emilie Tingey (17:30.909) placed fourth and Gloge and Janss (17:36.653) finished fifth. Five more pairs of Longhorns finished in seventh through 11th place, with Arrington and Jessica Kolmer (17:42.960) finishing seventh, Kindall Keen and Megan O'Hargan (17:46.080) placing eighth, Ann Hochschild and Caitlin Krouse (17:47.171) finishing ninth, Danielle Bartz and Christine Reppa (17:58.666) placing 10th and Lianne Burton and Latane Montagure (18:00.770) coming in 11th. The Longhorns eight boats competed in the collegiate eight heats to conclude the day. Texas' second boat finished fifth in heat one with a time of 01:41.332, while the first boat finished sixth, posting a time of 01:41.704. The third boat recorded a fifth place finished in heat two with a time of 01:46.820. Texas returns to the water Saturday, Oct. 28 when it hosts the Head of the Colorado on Town Lake.
