AUSTIN, Texas -- Fourteen current and former Texas rowers are competing this week in the 126th annual Royal Canadian Henley in Saint Catharines, Ontario. Four current Longhorns are rowing for Saint Catharines Rowing Club, while a group of 10 current and former UT rowers are competing for the Austin Rowing Club (ARC). Current Texas juniors Nancy Arrington, Charlene Brickner, Sara Cottingham, seniors Emily Cook, Andrea Crow, Laura Perkins, as well as sophomores Colby Lowrey and Sarah Rush are rowing for ARC. Joining the eight current UT rowers with ARC are former Longhorns Alex Janss and Kelli Garrett. Sophomore Jennifer VanderMaarel and incoming freshmen Felicia Izaguirre-Werner, Emma Dirks and Karli Sheahan are all rowing for Saint Catharines. The Henley settled in St. Catharines in 1903 and since doing so it has grown to become the largest race of its kind in North America. In 2007, over 2,700 men and women from over 150 rowing clubs competed for Henley Gold. The 2008 Henley begins on Aug. 5 with preliminaries and concludes on Sunday, Aug. 10.
