Rowing lands two on Conference USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas -- Texas seniors Nancy Arrington and Colleen Irby are among 16 student-athletes that have been named to the 2010 Conference USA All-Academic Team, announced by the league office and voted on by the league's sports information directors for rowing. Arrington is one of four student-athletes that was a unanimous selection to the All-Academic squad. She is a seven-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and was a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) South Region Scholar-Athlete in 2007-08. The Marietta, Ga., native is a two-time team captain and has led Texas to back-to-back Big 12 Championships, while maintaining a 3.94 GPA in government with a minor in Spanish. Irby, an Austin, Texas, native is a six-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and was a CRCA South Region Scholar-Athlete in 2008-09. This season she has split time between Texas' second varsity eight and its first varsity four, helping the Horns to their second straight Big 12 title, while carrying a 3.91 GPA in history with a minor in government. All nine C-USA rowing schools were represented. Alabama and Kansas placed three members on the team, while Oklahoma, Texas and Tulsa each had two. Kansas State, SMU, Tennessee and UCF had one representative each. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key contributor to their team. The 2010 C-USA Rowing Championship will take place May 15-16 at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
