Rowing's Burns earns C-USA All-Academic honors

IRVING, Texas – Texas sophomore rower Chelsea Burns is among the 15 student-athletes that have been named to the 2011 Conference USA All-Academic Team as voted on by the league's sports information directors for women's rowing. The San Antonio, Texas, native has competed in nine races in 2011 for the Horns’ second varsity eight. She led UT’s open 8 entry to a fifth-place finish at the Head of the Hooch. Her 2V8 crew finished second at the Heart of Texas and notched wins over Louisville, Iowa and San Diego at the Longhorn Invitational. Burns and the 2V8 also defeated Kansas’ in a dual race and notched a win over No. 13 Clemson at the Virginia Invitational. At the 2011 Big 12 Championship, she led the 2V8 to a win and helped UT claim its third-straight Big 12 title. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key contributor to their team. This year's squad each compiled a GPA of 3.7 or better, with three members maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. The 2011 C-USA Rowing Championship will take place May 14 at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
