Laurel McCaig, Carie Graves earn 2012 Big 12 postseason honors

May 2, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas - The Big 12 Conference has announced its rowing postseason awards by a vote of the league's coaches with Texas Rowing earning two honors. Junior starboard Laurel McCaig (Carver, Mass./Tabor Academy) was named Big 12 Co-Rower of the Year while Texas head coach Carie Graves was named Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year.

Competing on the seven seat of the first varsity eight, McCaig's boat finished second at the Big 12 Championship behind Oklahoma. The boat lost by nearly 10 seconds at the Longhorn Invitational in March, but McCaig helped the boat get within a half-second in Saturday's race against the Sooners. McCaig was named to the All-Big 12 first team and Academic All-Big 12 second team.

Graves led the Longhorns to their fourth straight Big 12 Championship as UT won three of six races (second varsity eight, fourth varsity eight and second varsity four). Four Longhorns earned All-Big 12 first team honors while four were named to the second team. A total of 22 Texas student-athletes earned Academic All-Big 12 honors.
